Seed Starting 101 -- Create the right environment

Starting seeds can be easy and simple. You just need to know what environment your seed needs and provide the appropriate:

  • Soil
  • Moisture
  • Air Circulation
  • Light
  • Temperature
There you go...that is all you really need to know.

For a little elaboration of seed starting 101, go to the Botanical Interests seed company blog.
http://www.botanicalinterests.com/blog/?p=393

Botanical Interests is my favorite local seed company (the company is local; the seeds are from everywhere), partly because owner Curtis and his family are so nice and know ALOT about seeds, and partly because the inside of their seed packets are full of specific information about germinating and growing that particular seed. And the botanical illustrations on the packets are beautiful.

You can get their seeds at garden centers like Sturtz and Paulino's. (McGuckin's quit carrying them for some reason I cannot fathom.) Vitamin Cottage carries a small selection in Spring.
